Time Management Tips
Success in Careers | November 3, 2010 | ShareThey say time and tide wait for no man. Well, you will realise the true value of time only once it has passed. However, the youth of today would rather spend their free time at a local coffee shop or playing video games that only add to anxiety and do not lead to any kind of productivity. Success is a product of the amount of time you spend cultivating it. It is necessary to kick back your legs too, however you need to balance your life to ensure that you can afford to.
Time management is a skill that has to be practiced, it cannot be inculcated overnight and you have to organize your time in order to get the best from life. Giving into peer pressure and using all your free time unproductively is not good for your career. One should make time for work as well as for pleasure. Below discussed are a few ideas of how you can make the most of the time you have at hand, because once you don’t have it, you will repent all the time you wasted.
Learn to say no: There are a number of people in this world who cannot say no. When someone asks them to go shopping or for a movie, even if they are in the middle of something important, they will simply get up and leave. Prioritize your work, commit to your task at hand, finish it and then only move on to something else. Say No, even if it may hurt the next person, of course your rejection for the movie or an evening out at the mall should be polite.
Organize your day: Wake up every morning and make a list of things to do in your head. Also decide how much time you wish to dedicate to each activity.
Take a break: If you have been spending too much time working or studying, make sure you factor in some breaks as well. If you continuously pressure your mind, you can get stressed and your mind may not be able to function properly. Give it some rest, have a cup of coffee, take a walk, talk to friends and then get back to work. That way the time you spend working will be more productive.
Goal oriented: When you start something new, make sure you have a goal in mind and are not pursuing it aimlessly. When you do that you will be able to track results as time go by and you will know exactly how much time you need to get the job done. This will allow you to plan other aspects of your life better.
Time is the greatest weapon you have and you should use it wisely. When you grow up, you will tell your children the same thing. A lot of adults look back at the best years of their lives and wonder how life would have turned out if they have just used their time a little more productively. Use your time to take on a new hobby, read as much as you can, go for adventure sports, hone your skills and add to life as much as you can. Respect time and time will respect you.
