Their main motive is to ensure internal national security and provide for the defense of the country against other occupation forces which also include terrorists. The army is also deployed for help the affected during natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, landslides etc. Being in the Indian army is one of the most adventurous, challenging and prestigious positions anyone can ever dream of. It allows you to have a privileged lifestyle with some of the best perks anyone could ever dream of while at the same time determines and builds your character.
To join the army, before looking into the eligibility factors, you need to realize as to whether you have a strong will power and can actually face the challenges ahead of you, knowing the fact that you have to give up pretty much everything. Putting this in more stringent words, it implies giving up on your own lifestyle. The recruitment of personnel usually happens through the UPSC or the Union Public Service Commission exams which happen twice every year. You need to fall within the age limit of 16 to 19 to take the entry level exam passing which leads to admission in the National Defence Academy. The UPSC exams are usually based on the CBSE syllabus. After clearing the exam round, you would be made to go through a five day interview process with the State Selection Board depending upon which you would be put into the respective state academies. After getting trained at the NDA, the candidates are sent to the Indian Military Academy where they would finally be trained to be commissioned into the Indian army. Graduates can directly join the IMA for a pre-commission after an interview with the Service Selection Board.
In case you are not too sure whether you want to join the army on a life long basis, you can also join on a short service commission basis where you would have to be at service for 5 years and have the option of resigning at any time.
Well then, if you want to fulfill your childhood dreams of saluting the Indian flag and take pride in wearing the military uniform, while people would look at you with awe, go and leave a mark for yourself and the country.
